Sierra Club Resources on Mountaintop Removal

The blog, Growing Up All Over Again, presents a nice roundup of coal and mountaintop removal resources from the Sierra Club in its post Focus On: Coal - Sierra Club.

Beautiful Evil

Jeremy Peters’ post on the blog Hillbilly Savants has a thoughtful listing of articles, organizations, books, and other sources on mountaintop removal. It was this image of a MTR site, though, that struck me as so beautifully evil that it continues to stay in my mind’s eye. Something about this image seems to capture the depth and breadth of this spectacular evisceration.

Hah! Never say “only”

So, the Mountaintop Removal Clearinghouse is not the only blog dedicated solely to mountaintop removal. I discovered a site yesterday that looked like a new work in progress. Mountain Justice Media “an online resource for media professionals, organizers, and anyone in the general public concerned about mountaintop removal mining in the coalfields of Appalachia.” Their site has evolved since yesterday with the addition of something blog-like. Yesterday, the articles section of the site was merely a calendar with links to a few articles from the past week. Today, it now appears in a much more readable blog format. Other sections of the site are evolving as well.
